EYE'M (NOT) SORRY

Ok, so I’ve been absent from this blog and my Instagram for a hot minute, so I want to apologize, but I won’t, because women need to stop apologizing for the choices that make their lives easier, (which is something I should probably get on a poster at this point). I was focusing on getting a job and I ended up getting two jobs, a grown-up day job and a fun side job as a skincare consultant at Sephora (!!!). I finally started my grown-up job last week and I start at Sephora next week so I thought it was finally time to get back into it.
On that note, let’s get back to skincare. I wanted to talk about this Youth to the People eye cream and why I love it but first I’d like to talk about eye creams in general and my previous feelings about them. My previous experiences with eye creams leave a lot to be desired. By which I mean, I could write sonnets about how they were obviously a snake oil created by the beauty industry to keep women down and we’d all been gaslit into believing this greasy cream that stung our eyes and made us tear up was actually the key to keeping our eternal youth and husbands. Yeah. I said my opinion of them was low, but you didn’t really believe me, did you? Well, in my defense, I did have my reasons. The eye creams I had tried previously WERE greasy, never dried, smeared into my eyes, stung them, and I never even saw a difference? So, I decided it must be a beauty conspiracy theory and moved on.
Then one day in December I joined the skincare community. I read about serums, oils, cleansers, moisturizers, actives, and finally eye creams. I kept hearing these bloggers I trusted singing the praises of their favorite eye creams and I finally conceded that maybe, just maybe, I had just made the wrong choices and there actually were eye creams out there that did, in fact, serve a purpose. And thus began my apprehensive search for an eye cream to heal my distrust of eye creams. I landed upon this moderately priced Kale + Aloe Sunflower Oil Tripeptide 5 Eye Cream from Youth to the People. It was actually an on-a-whim purchase after months of reading and researching and getting nowhere. What can I say? Sometimes you get lucky.
So here are the reasons I fell in love with this eye cream, eye cream in general, and began to trust again. This product doesn’t start greasy and it doesn’t end up greasy. It is a beautifully creamy yet highly viscous texture that melts into your skin and then dries down wonderfully. I noticed a difference the next morning. I mean…!! WHAT. Keep in mind it wasn’t like I was going to bed with a bare face before, even on my eye area. I was using essences, toners, oils, serums, and a thick night cream. Yet my eyes were never as soft, as hydrated, and as moisturized as they were that first morning.
With the spirit of saying thank you instead of I’m sorry, I won’t apologize to eye cream and the people I thought were trying to fool me. Instead I will say thank you to Youth to the People for teaching me to trust again and for hydrating my eyes.
